  1. RHIALTO THE MARVELLOUS 4 - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears in the book, "Rhialto the Marvellous" by Jack Vance.

As you know, in the world of formal education, degrees are given to those who have completed their courses successfully, and having a Bachelor's degree allows you to proclaim to be a legitimate electrical engineer, or a doctor, or an educator, or a financial wizard, etc. etc. Having a college Degree gives you a high probability of success in life. And by extending your education to aquire a Master's Degree improves your chances of reaching greater success.

But all those Degrees infer that you received and absorbed knowledge given to you through books that you read and lectures given to you by your professors. But there is a higher Degree, the Ph.d, "Doctor of Philosophy," which is given to those who do the research and the work that results in new knowledge that they present to mankind, which earns them the Ph.d degree.

However, in the world of the arts, having a "Degree" from an art school is not as effective. The schools that teach Painting, or writing, Acting, Dancing, Film-making, etc. etc. will give you a Degree, or Certificate, to prove that you completed the course, but those awards have a limited effect on your chances of success in the art world. Most painters, writers, actors and dancers who aquire them, still have a hard time achieving success at their chosen art form.

    Desideratum 3:
In this infinite universe where I live, opportunity flows abundantly.
I am completely receptive to what the universe offers me.
I have within me all the ingredients for success.
I support myself and my family, and they support me.
I will make today a pleasure to experience.
